“Town & Country”
Historic House Tours
Chambersburg, PA
The 3rd Annual Historic House Tour, titled “Town
& Country”, is scheduled for December 6, 2009 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm in Chambersburg, PA. Four early homes plus two historic churches will be open to the public for this great holiday fundraiser. The Old Jail, located at 175 E. King Street in downtown Chambersburg, will be open
during the event for ticket sales, brochures and refreshments. A new spin to
the event this year is the addition of a Green’s Show featured in the renovated Old Jail Lecture Hall showcasing three
classes of arrangements. Admission / Tickets are $15 per person. The public is
invited to participate in the greens show, winners will be decided by a visitor vote, contact the Franklin County Historical
Society for registration information.

Black Forest Cake, Pumpkin Spice Torte, Granny Smith Apple Pie, and Fresh Berries with Brandy Syrup. Beverages include
Ice Water and Punch, Coffee, Decaf, and hot water for Tea.

PHS and PHMC have opened a new website for commemoration
of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. It contains historical information and dates and descriptions for commemoration

PA CIVIL WAR TRAILS
The State Tourism Office has initiated a new program
called “PA Civil War Trails: Prelude to Gettysburg,” which will be a package available that started the first

FRANKLIN COUNTY TO PRESERVE RECORDS
Franklin County, with financial assistance
from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, has established an archival and records management program designed
to ensure the proper storage, management and disposal of all official County records in addition to assisting the public in
a number of ways relative to genealogical and scholarly research. Franklin County
is committed to safeguarding and preserving its history and heritage as well as providing the public with access to the documents
and records pertaining to the history, administration and operation of the County.
The County is in the process
of organizing and relocating some of its oldest and most historically valuable records.
Additionally, the County will begin a comprehensive document scanning and microfilming project beginning in January
2006 to ensure the preservation of these important records as well as increase the accessibility and availability of these
records for research purposes.
